Firefly Berries is and always has been a family-run business. In November 2010 Dean & Tonya Sanner purchased the already existing farm (formerly the Sterling Fruit Farm) from Lois & Lowell Sterling.
Though this is the first time for Dean & Tonya owning a fruit farm, both have experience in farming/gardening and love the challenge of taking care of the land. Dean grew up on a small Dairy Farm in Southern Wisconsin where he learned first hand the kind of work that is needed to care for the land and animals. Tonya grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in NE Wisconsin. And whether it was her grandmother's raspberry garden, her family's vegetable garden or amongst the trees of Nicolet National Forest, Tonya could be found hunting and caring for berries and the land from a young age.
These experiences, along with a passion to eat and grow local, fresh foods without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides fueled the Sanners to purchase the Sterling Fruit Farm and make it their own.
The Sanners have four young boys (Lucas, Ian , Eliot & Lincoln) who love to be involved in every aspect of the berry farm -- from picking to eating to pruning the bushes. And not to be forgotten, Firefly Berries is also home to three friendly kitties (Zazu, Soleil & Twinkle) who you'll likely see peeking out the window at you.
"We look forward to all of the challenges & joys each day of this new adventure will bring! And we look forward to sharing a little bit of our life with you!" -Dean & Tonya
